OFFICIAL SECRETS ACT (One Little Indian/Uk)
Pop / New Wave. A four-piece jerky-pop-rock band from North London who got their act together, literally, in 2006 in the squatlands of Leeds and Manchester, Official Secret Act are influenced by those sometimes American but mostly British exponents of succinct, melodic, angular guitar pop: Talking Heads and Futureheads, Blur and Bloc Party. Witty, a bit eccentric, the OSA gentlemen apparently have a healthy knowledge of British military victories and defeats and know something about the post-war consensus, Renaissance literature, the Caxton press, Bletchley Park and BBC TV Test Cards. But you will hear less of these subjects in their music, which like we say is jerky, poppy and rocky, than you will the collective irrationality and controlled fervour of Weezer and Wire, although they do have a song called The Art Of Being Sure which alludes during its 360 seconds to the nature of belief and the imponderability of existence. And it has a guitar pattern that sounds like a compression of everything that electric guitarists did between 1976 and 1977, ie between the releases of Eight Miles High and Marquee Moon.

THE PSYCHOLOGIST & HIS MEDICINE BAND (Fr)
The Psychologist and His Medicine Band est un étonnant groupe né fin 2006 à l'initiative de l'auteur, compositeur et interprète Thomas Lion. Composé de cinq musiciens aux origines diverses, le Medicine Band mêle à des sonorités résolument contemporaines l'influence éparse des mouvements musicaux 60's et 70's ; de la pop britannique au rock californien en passant par le folk, le garage et le psychédélisme. Cette richesse musicale, marqueur manifeste des chansons de Thomas Lion est également l'un des points forts du groupe lors de ses représentations scéniques. A la configuration pluri-instrumentale de ses membres s'ajoute la présence d'un troisième guitariste dont les arrangements live intensifient les moments d'apesanteur comme les instants d'effervescence pendant lesquels le groupe se transforme en une bande exaltée et insatiable.
