«GUM, le projet solo du multi-instrumentiste Jay Watson de Tame Impala et POND, est de retour avec la sortie d'un double single : "The Underdog" et "S.I.A.", extraits de l'album à venir "The Underdog" qui sera le quatrième album solo de Watson et dont la date de sortie sera dévoilée le mois prochain.
Actuellement en tournée dans son Australie natale avec Pond, GUM a annoncé une série de concerts en avril pour fêter la sortie de ces nouvelles chansons.

Décrit comme "un esprit musical universel flexible et sans fin", la capacité de GUM à traverser de nombreux genres est évidente dans les derniers morceaux qu'il propose. Il a lui-même enregistré et mixé l'album, avec un ajout de batterie dans le home studio de Kevin Parker. "J'aimais l'idée que ce soit de la musique #électronique vraiment logique, un peu #groovy mais aussi vraiment froide et mécanique."

Avec une série de concerts complets en 2017, GUM est familier des salles pleines à craquer. Il a fait les premières parties d'artistes tels que #MacDeMarco et #MiniMansions et va assurer celle d'#AngelOlsen en mars prochain. En 2018, The Underdog est prêt à attirer une nouvelle légion de fans de GUM et à établir fermement le son typique de Watson.»

«Emerson Snowe is a project that I have had for years since I was in school, it has always been some form of an outlet of representing my ‘true’ self in a way. It started as a kind of heightened version of my self-awareness but overtime I’m finding it to become basically who I am as a person. This has given me the confidence I’ve always wanted to give my art and music.
Everything about this is about my want to do things instantaneously as they come up in my head. The music is all written in under 20 minutes, that way everything is a running thought and I’m fully trusting my first instincts when it comes to instrumentation or the simple use of my words rather than a constant layering. As I’m writing this I am 20 months without alcohol. The hangar it had on my life was unbelievable and for once I was actually able to believe in what I wanted to create physically and mentally. Could You Love Me is a fitting debut, the irony in it is that it has the feeling of how I felt before I had the self confidence in being comfortable with myself. It’s also devoted to my girlfriend Tina.»
